Final Blog Entry - Fond Farewell to my Friends and the City that Hosted Me

My time here in Budapest has been a time well spent. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been here for over two months, and harder still to think that I actually survived the whole way through. Looking back to the man I was when I first started university at the age of nineteen, I couldn’t see myself being able to do what I’ve done, being able to move to another city, let only another country and continent, and to work and survive and fend for myself.

Recycled Bottles as Pots for Plants

Recyclable Plant Pots

“Recyclable plant pots” is an idea to use old plastic bottles, such as those used for Pepsi, Coke, or water, etc. and turn the bottles into pots for plants. You first cut the top off of a bottle. You could use the top of the bottle, the part with the cap on it, as a shovel of sorts to scoop dirt into the bottom section of the bottle. Fill the bottom bottle with potting soil and find a plant small enough to plants into the bottle. With any luck the plant should take root in the bottle. You may even be able to see the roots of the plant throw the bottle plastic.

Polish Bike Tour - Success in Kazimierz

Hello all!

On July 19th the participants in the Polish Biking Tour of the Baobab Tree Exhibition set up the exhibition in Kazimierz, Poland. The exhibition was yet again a success, gathering several people to see the Baobab demonstration in action. Next, the bikers will be traveling to Warsaw on the 24th and setting up the exhibition next to the port of Czerniakowskim. Be sure to come out and visit the Baobab tree and help greet our bike tour participants!

Staying Cool in the Summer Heat

Hello all once again!
The summer has finally come to Budapest and it’s really, really hot!! And not in the good way! Temperatures have been averaging above 30 degrees lately, with fairly high humidity as well.

As the temperature rises, here are a few strategies to beat the heat and stay healthy:

Polish Bike Tour - The Arrival

Hello once again!

I am happy to inform you all that the participants in the Polish Bike Tour of the Baobab Exhibition have all arrived safely in Krakow.

The participants are going by bike as the Baobab tree is taken by van on its tour of Poland. The bikers will be taking a route that can be seen here: http://www.messzelato.hu/baobab/?page_id=11

Polish Bike Tour

Hello all!

Today the participants in the Polish Bike Tour, to promote the Baobab tree project, left for Krakow.

The participants (Alban, Marta, Vera, and a few others) will be biking across Poland with the Baobab tree, promoting climate change prevention and displaying their newly home-made painted flags and new t-shirts! Watch for the Messzelato crew biking by with their 350 symbols. The participants will be gone from Hungary for about a month, biking and staying in hostels.

Messzelato in July!

Once again, hello all!

It’s been a while since my last blog, but a lot has happened here!

This past June we saw the end of the Baobab tree’s Czech Republic Tour. Alban, one of our EVS volunteers, was there for the last few stops of the tour. Unfortunately it rained quite heavily at a few of the stops, but our team wasn’t deterred, if not a little irritated! The Baobab tree now rests safely back at Messzelato’s home office in Budapest.

Getting Started in Budapest

Hello to all!
My name is Bradley Horton and I am the new intern for Messzelato for the summer of 2009. I came here with the assistance of the Bard-CEU summer internship program, and they helped me to find work with Messzelato.
