Messzelato in July!

Once again, hello all!

It’s been a while since my last blog, but a lot has happened here!

This past June we saw the end of the Baobab tree’s Czech Republic Tour. Alban, one of our EVS volunteers, was there for the last few stops of the tour. Unfortunately it rained quite heavily at a few of the stops, but our team wasn’t deterred, if not a little irritated! The Baobab tree now rests safely back at Messzelato’s home office in Budapest.

Also this past June and early July was the end of Messzelato’s LandArt competition. We received over 70 pieces of LandArt from seven different countries, including Hungary, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Russia, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. For those who don’t know, LandArt is a form of artwork where the ingredients used to make the artwork comes from nature itself. So in essence, you use materials seen and found in nature to create a piece of art, while also preferably not disturbing the natural ecosystem. We are currently voting on the best pieces of art work on art standards, how well the art piece expresses a message on climate change, and how involved children were in the design and planning of the art piece.

This past Fourth of July, the Independence Day of my country, I gave a presentation on what it’s like to live in the United States and what it is like to live in my home state, Michigan. I also spoke on what Green initiatives and goals the United States has and how the US is moving towards these goals under the Obama administration. The presentation was supposed to be around an hour long, but it ended up being three hours long! Many people arrived to watch my presentation, and many asked good questions. I’m very glad and happy that so many people attended and participated, and I hope they all learned something about what it is like to live where I live.

Recently we had some new additions to Messzelato! First of all is Vera, the newest EVS volunteer to join Messzelato. She is from Serbia and joined us this past week, and is already working hard. The other new addition is the Messzelato guitar, donated from one of our former volunteers. It keeps me company on slow business days.

Oh, I will also be giving a presentation about Messzelato to my seminar class as part of the curriculum for the class. Even though I’m not required to do the presentation, I’d still like to promote Messzelato and the work it is doing with volunteers and other Green NGO’s.

That’s about all I can think of at the moment, so I think I will end it here! I’ve been having a pretty good time here, and still discovering new things every day, and I hope to discover even more! Take care everyone, and keep being Green!
