Trip to the Mecsek hills

On the 19th August a small group of us set off for the Mecsek hills to wage war on some unruly rose trees and blackberry bushes. Chase, Roan, Bob and myself set of bright and early from Budapest, and a few hours later were rewarded by an invigorating swim in Lake Balaton when we stopped at Siofok. After another small stop for food we eventually arrived at the house of Erik and Kathleen, in the tiny village of Puspokszentlaszlo, nestled under the highest point of the Mecsek hills.

The Trainers are back

Hi! We are back from our small tour in northeastern Hungary to visit the small trains. You can find small pictures and comments on our small Blog here: http://hungariantrailway.wordpress.com

The Trainers are rolling out

Friday 18th of April, Christina and I (Benjamin) are going to start a journey in the North eastern quarter of Hungary if there is no strike. We are going to visit the kisvasutak (small railways) and take pictures of the nature from the small trains. The issue is an exhibition, we hope in Szimpla kert, when we will be back, around the 1st of May. This 10 days trip is going to lead us to Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Dombrád, Balsa, Miskolc, Eger, Gyöngyös, and Nagybörzsöny.

International Water Day in Vác

in

A group of international activists set off from Budapest and the surrounding area to celebrate International Water Day in Vác, a pretty market town 30 minutes away.

The plan was to help Danube protecting NGO, Göncöl Szövetség, in making a channel from the Danube to a near-by lake to improve water quality and create spawning ground for fish. We also needed to move fallen trees which caused problems when the area flooded. Everyone worked hard all day, only stopping for a ‘bring and share picnic.’

We'll help you, mate!

Wake up at 5 for the frogs! What a pleasure on Saturday morning! A sacrifice? I would say a satisfaction! The satisfaction of helping these sticky but sympathic amphibians to migrate on rainy days, to avoid the obstacles, to jump until the paradise of reproduction: a beautiful wetland sprinkled with soft white flowers whose blossoming welcomes the land-aquatico jumpers-swimmer.

About HuMuSz

Sometime ago I had the responsibility to translate the HuMuSz website to my mother language, Portuguese in order to divulge to a broader community the activity of this Hungarian association.

It was very interesting to translate their website I learned a lot not only about this association but also how to manage with waste.

NGO Fair at CEU

Today we represented Messzelátó at the CEU's NGO Fair where we described our activities to the interested students, as well as we recommended our volunteer and internship opportunities to them. Numerous Hungarian and international Budapest-based NGOs took part in this event.

My work at the animal shelter

Once a week I feel important. Once a week I improve someone's life.

A whole day each week I go to the Rex animal shelter in the outskirts of Budapest and walk the dogs. In average I go with 12-13 dogs, from the morning until the dogs' feeding time at around four p.m.
